‘Loki’ Executive Producer Kevin R. Wright Is Leaving Marvel
Kevin R. Wright, the Marvel veteran who climbed the ranks to eventually become VP of production, is leaving the studio, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
While Wright would eventually be known as the man behind the hit Disney+ series Loki, he actually joined Marvel in 2016, working as a development assistant. Over time his Marvel credits would include production and development manager on 2016’s Doctor Strange and associate producer on Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018).

Wright would eventually earn credits on 21 Marvel productions, although according to the producer, he spent 5 years working solely on Loki, the show that would change his career.
Pitching ‘Loki’
When Disney CEO Bob Iger tasked Marvel head Kevin Feige with expanding the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) into steaming to help support the launch of Disney+, Wright created a 30-page pitch for a series about Tom Hiddleston’s Loki.
“I wrote a 30-page pitch of what [Loki] could be. It had the TVA, He Who Remains and Victor Timely was even in there,” Wright recalled to The Hollywood Reporter last year.

While Marvel would eventually bring in a team of writers and directors to turn this vision into a reality, including series creator Michael Waldron, Wright had another job on his hands.
The now-executive producer was tasked with convincing Hiddleston to return for the series.

“And before we had writers, directors or anything, it was basically pitching it to Tom [Hiddleston], because he was very much like, ‘I don’t want to ruin this wonderful arc I’ve had for the last ten years. What exactly is this?’ So it was getting him excited about it.”
‘Loki’ Would Become the Premier MCU Series
Eventually, Hiddleston would return, and Loki would go on to become the flagship Marvel streaming series. Unlike many of its MCU counterparts, the show was finished on time and under budget. It also reportedly did not require any reshoots.

Marvel was so pleased with the final result that Loki would become the only live-action MCU series to be renewed for a second season.
While Season 2 of Loki seemed to neatly tie the Asgardian’s story, Wright had been open about his willingness to keep the show going.

“The whole idea of long form is you want these to be sustaining. And I think we’re starting to find that in ‘Loki’ and deliver on it. So I would certainly love to keep telling stories in this little corner of the universe we’ve made,” he said last year.
What Wright’s Exit Means
Now, however, Wright is leaving.
“I am incredibly proud of my contributions to the MCU and thankful for my time at Marvel Studios and The Walt Disney Company,” Wright said in a statement. “The industry has changed dramatically during my near decade with the company. I can no longer ignore my desire to independently produce original films and television. I extend my love and gratitude to everyone at Marvel Studios.”

What Wright’s departure means for Marvel remains to be seen. One thing is clear, however. Loki Season 3 just got a whole lot more unlikely.
