Tim Blake Nelson Talks Reshoots and His Character’s Backstory in ‘Captain America: Brave New World’
The cast of Captain America: Brave New World recently reassembled in Atlanta for 22 days of reshoots.
Unlike former Marvel actors who complained about the studio’s often-vigorous reshooting schedule, Tim Blake Nelson, who is set to reprise his role as Samuel Sterns/the Leader in the fourth Captain America film, shared with ScreenRant that he is excited to revisit the film.

“Very excited about it. I’m headed to Atlanta tomorrow to continue working on that,” he said.
What Has the Leader Been Doing Since ‘The Incredible Hulk’
Nelson originated the role of Samuel Sterns with a brief appearance in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. While the film showed Bruce Banner’s gamma-infused blood making contact with Sterns’s head wound, we never got the full story of his transformation into the Leader.

According to Nelson, Marvel has come up with a story for what Sterns has been up to for the last 16 years.
“It’s been very exciting to bring back a character from 16 years ago and imagine how he has aged with me and how that has manifested. The Marvel team has come up with a really interesting explanation. Revelation, I should say, as to what he’s been up to for 16 years and why.”

While Captain America: Brave New World is ostensively about Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson assuming the mantle of Captain America, the film is also being set up as something of a sequel to The Incredible Hulk. In addition to Nelson’s return as the Leader, the film will see Liv Tyler reprise her role as Betsy Ross and Harrison Ford assume the role of Thunderbolt Ross from the late William Hurt.
