Marvel Star Evangeline Lilly Is Retiring From Acting
Actress Evangeline Lilly, who is perhaps best known for her time as Kate Austen on Lost, and as Janet Van Dyke/The Wasp in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), is stepping away from acting.
In an Instagram post, Lilly wrote:
“I am so filled with joy and contentment today as I live out my vision. Praise God, I feel so grateful for my blessings. Stepping away from what seems like the obvious choice (wealth and fame) can feel scary at times. But stepping into your dharma replaces the fear with fulfillment.”

A new season has arrived, and I AM READY…and I AM HAPPY.”

The post included a video of the actress recorded in 2006, where she answers a question about where she saw herself in 10 years.

“I am terrified to admit this to the rest of the acting world,” she said at the time, “but ideally, 10 years from now, I’d like to be a retired actress, and I would like to have a family… and potentially… influencing people’s lives in a more humanitarian way.”
The post also includes a clip of the late Maya Angelou, who says, “The only promise that will not be reneged upon is you will die. You may as well try to do some other wonderful things.”
In her caption, Lilly says that Angelou is “perfectly articulating how I feel about life.”
Is Lilly Done With the MCU?
Interestingly, Lilly’s announcement came on the same day that Deadline reported that more than 60 Marvel characters will be featured in ‘Avengers 5.’
While Lilly did leave the door open for a possible return, for now, it seems we can cross one name off that list.
