Past Adaptations of Marvel’s Fantastic Four Made This Actor Pause Before Signing On
While fans are understandably excited for the debut of the Fantastic Four in the MCU, there is also a sense of trepidation.
For years, a Fantastic Four movie was rumored to be in the works, with Roger Corman even producing a film in 1994 that was never released.

Then, in 2005, following the success of their X-Men movies, Fox attempted to start a Fantastic Four franchise with Tim Story directing. Despite a cast of Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis, the film received poor reviews from both comic book fans and critics alike.
In spite of its poor reviews, Story’s film managed to become a box office success. While it would eventually spawn a sequel, the much-maligned Rise of the Silver Surfer, the series was deemed a failure overall.

Fox attempted to reboot the franchise in 2015 with a film that starred Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell. That film was an even bigger disaster than the Story movies.
Paul Walter Hauser Considered Past Fantastic Four Failures
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Paul Halter Hauser, who is set to play an undisclosed character, admitted that the failure of the previous adaptations of Marvel’s First Family caused him to pause before eventually signing on.
“Don’t think that didn’t weigh in as I was deciding whether or not to take the job,” Hauser said. “That movie has not fully been nailed just yet.”

In the end, however, Hauser is confident in the team that Marvel has assembled this time around.
“But I really do think the combination of the screenplay, and the department heads that are working on the film, and that classy cast of really exciting actors — some of them known for a long time, and some of them having a moment right now — [make me feel that] this movie is special, and it was something I wanted to be a part of.”

Hopefully, Marvel will get the Fantastic Four right this time around. The iconic team will make their MCU debut on July 25, 2025.
