The Disney World Summer 2024 Rain Update
Did you know that Walt Disney World receives an inch of rain every five days on average in June?
Yes, rainy days have become a more frequent occurrence in Central Florida in June.

So, here’s the Disney World summer rain update, which should help you know what to do when it rains.
About Summer Rain in Orlando
According to WeatherSpark, “The average sliding 31-day rainfall during June in Orlando is rapidly increasing, starting the month at 4.7 inches.
“(Rainfall) rarely exceeds 7.6 inches or falls below 1.9 inches, and (ends) the month at 5.9 inches, when it rarely exceeds 8.3 inches or falls below 3.6 inches.”
So, you can expect about six inches of rain every 31 days, which is an inch every five days. And that’s umbrella weather.
Will you definitely experience rainfall during your Disney World visit? No.
Nobody ever knows what will happen with the weather, no matter what some meteorologist tells you.
However, I believe in the laws of probability, and the odds are good if you spend at least five days at Disney World.
As such, you should understand how rainfall will impact your park visits.
Which Rides Close during Inclement Weather?
Obviously, many outdoor attractions, especially roller coasters, won’t operate during inclement weather.
Disney officials care about your safety and will not risk your health when the forecast calls for rain.
As such, you should expect many outdoor rides to shut down.
Similarly, many parades, Cavalcades, and the like will experience either delays or cancellations during rainy weather.
Notably, the nighttime fireworks presentations rarely experience full cancellations.
Instead, Disney usually delays them or shrinks the performance’s length.
The Full List of Specific Attraction Closures
Here’s a list of the ride-based attractions that may close during inclement weather.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom:
- Expedition Everest
- Gorilla Falls Trail
- Kali River Rapids
- Kilimanjaro Safaris
- Maharajah Jungle Trek
- TriceraTop Spin
- Wildlife Express Train

None of these should surprise anyone.
I mean, you’d be taking your life into your own hands by riding Expedition Everest with slick tracks.

Still, as the most outdoors theme park at Walt Disney World, Animal Kingdom bears the brunt during bad weather.
You can imagine how much the wait times soar for the indoor attractions with this many outdoor rides closed.
So, you should definitely pay more attention to the weather when you’re visiting Animal Kingdom.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios:

- Alien Swirling Saucers
- Beauty and the Beast Live Onstage
- Fantasmic!
- Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular!
- Slinky Dog Dash

The Toy Story Land attractions represent the only ride-based attractions impacted by the weather.
However, I’ve included a couple of outdoor stage shows here to remind you of that consideration.

Some bad weather leads to dangerous conditions for performing some of the Indiana Jones stunts.
Meanwhile, nobody wants to sing in the rain, no matter what some music festival might have made you believe.
I’ve also included Fantasmic! here, as it’s the one form of nighttime entertainment that could be interrupted by rain.
This presentation mixes live performances with a fire-breathing dragon. So, rainy weather can and sometimes does impact it.
EPCOT:

Okay, I realize this one may surprise you, but it’s true. Most EPCOT attractions are indoors.

Spaceship Earth
There is one with a memorable outside experience, but that’s Test Track.
As a reminder, Test Track closes permanently in its current form on June 17th.

So, unless you’re visiting over the next two weeks, you don’t need to worry about the weather at EPCOT.
Then again, those of you who are visiting EPCOT during the next few days really need to hope for good weather.

You’d feel heartbroken if the rain wiped out your final chance to ride Test Track in its current form!
PS: Remember that Test Track 3.0 will arrive in 2025 or 2026. It’s not going away forever, I swear!

Oh, and some of the concerts and live entertainment at the World Showcase won’t operate during rainy weather. It’s unsafe for the performers.
Magic Kingdom:

Tomorrowland in Magic Kingdom
- Astro Orbiter
- The Barnstormer
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
- Dumbo the Flying Elephant
- Jungle Cruise
- Liberty Square Riverboat
- Mad Tea Party
- Magic Carpets of Aladdin
- Prince Charming’s Regal Carrousel
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
- Swiss Family Treehouse
- Tom Sawyer Island
- Tomorrowland Speedway
- Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover
- Walt Disney World Railroad
Note that we don’t know how Disney will proceed with Tiana’s Bayou Adventure yet.
However, since Splash Mountain often closed for rain, I expect the same practice for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
Tips for Rainy Weather
As mentioned in the Animal Kingdom discussion, you should expect a few changes in park behavior when it rains.
Crowds will rush to the indoor attractions, leading to longer wait times in many instances.

So cool
You’ll find more park visitors congregating in the same locations, thereby creating bottlenecks.
On the bright side, many people anticipate the bad weather and simply switch parks or don’t visit.

So, a park like EPCOT doesn’t experience much of an impact during rainy weather, and even Hollywood Studios isn’t bothered much.
At Magic Kingdom, the sheer volume of attractions negates many of these issues, but those are still several high-quality rides that will be closed.

As such, you should remain alert to weather concerns during your Disney vacation.
Even serious rain won’t disrupt much of your visit, but it will force you to be adaptive.
My advice is to compile a must-do list of outdoor attractions, the ones listed here that may close during stormy weather.
Prioritize those on days when you know the weather will be nice.

Then, choose the indoor attractions at times when you’re not as certain about the weather.
But please keep in mind that you’ll wait longer for those attractions on rain days.
Overall, many of these concerns may prove overblown anyway.
Many Central Florida rainstorms come and go in just a few minutes. It’s fairly rare to experience an extended gusher at Disney World.
