Giancarlo Esposito Joins the Cast of ‘Captain America: Brave New World’

For weeks now, Giancarlo Esposito has teased fans at various conventions with the prospect that he could soon join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

While many had initially believed that Esposito would make the perfect Charles Xavier, The Mandalorian star told audiences at CCXP in Mexico City that he would not be portraying Professor X but “something original.”

““I cannot promise you it’ll be Professor X, because here’s what I think,” Esposito said. “I think that there’s something about being original. We’ve seen different versions of Professor X. Wouldn’t you like to see me play a character in a Marvel movie who is original, and new, and fresh? So, mark my words: This will happen sooner than you think.”

Esposito Said He Would First Appear in a Film

Earlier this week, Esposito told crowds at the Phoenix Fan Fusion that his mystery character would be getting his own streaming series.

“The MCU has knocked on my door and it’s a role you won’t predict. It will be teased, and there will be a series afterward,” Esposito said (via Legion of Sand).

Based on the Breaking Bad star’s comments, fans inferred that Esposito would make his MCU debut in a film before his character’s story was fleshed out in a streaming series.

The Mystery Film Is ‘Captain America: Brave New World’

While many concluded that Esposito would then debut in next year’s The Fantastic Four, it turns out that the veteran actor is actually set to appear in Captain America: Brave New World.

Although details are still few and far between, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Esposito has joined the cast as an antagonist. In fact, the MCU’s latest edition was on hand as Brave New World underwent 22 days of reshoots.

As Esposito is a late addition to the Captain America cast, it seems likely his role will be smaller. Still, if Esposito’s earlier comments are correct, his MCU story is just getting started.
