Five Fun Facts in Honor of Disney’s Wilderness Lodge’s 30th Anniversary
As crazy as it sounds, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge officially celebrated its 30th anniversary this week.
That’s right! For three decades now, the resort has enthralled and awed guests with its American Northwest architecture and turn-of-the-century grandeur.
In honor of the resort’s big milestone, Disney shared five fun facts about the Wilderness Lodge!
Miles of Wood
Did you know? In order to build Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, construction teams brought in 85 truckloads of lodgepole pine logs?
According to Disney, the wood was taken from standing dead forests in Oregon and Montana. If the wood had been placed end to end, it would stretch 40 miles!
Hand-Carved Figures
Speaking of wood, the lobby of Disney’s Wilderness Lodge has 16 hand-carved figures of Pacific Northwest wildlife.
These figures were carved from lodgepole pine and placed according to their “life zone.”
Taking Inspiration From the Grand Canyon
If you have ever visited Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, you likely remember the resort’s 82-foot fireplace in the lobby. Did you know that the fireplace is actually a tribute to the Grand Canyon?
Just like the awe-inspiring geological feature, the fireplace features 100 colors and fossilized remains of prehistoric plant and animal life!
The Carolwood Pacific Room
Near the lobby of the Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is the Carolwood Pacific Room. The space is known by guests as a great place to unwind and relax after a busy day at Walt Disney World.
Did you know, however, that the room is actually a tribute to Walt’s love of trains?
Along the back wall of the room, two pieces of Walt Disney’s Carolwood Pacific, which was once located in the backyard of his Los Angeles home, can be found in the room. They are on loan from the Walt Disney Family Museum!
Hidden Mickeys, You Say?
Last but certainly not least, let’s talk Hidden Mickeys.
Like any Disney Resort, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge has a few Hidden Mickey’s to find. One of the hidden MIckeys is located in the lobby’s main fireplace. So, next time you visit, be sure to search for them all!
