Disney Fans Can Own a Real Fort Wilderness Cabin, But Time Is Running Out
As Disney fans, who among us has not dreamed of living at a Disney Resort. I know that when I was young, I would fantasize about winning the lottery and taking up permanent residence at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort.
Well, for perhaps the first time ever, Disney fans now actually have the opportunity to move into a Disney Resort room!
Here is the story.
Meet the Man Selling Fort Wilderness Resort Cabins
When Disney World began to replace the cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, James Robert “J.R.” Morrison had an idea.
Morrison, who owns Florida Manufactured Home Sales, purchased 100 of the cabins from Disney and began to resell them to fans. Soon enough, they were flying off the lot.
“This has definitely showed me that one, there are a huge amount of Disney fans, and two, tiny houses are the way, they are the future,” Morrison told Florida Today. “A lot of people aren’t going to be able to afford that $500,000 home. The generation today doesn’t want the big houses. It’s a great alternative.”
A Piece of Disney History
The cabins, which were built in either 1998 or 2001 and have since been renovated, are a true piece of Walt Disney World history.
The 500-square-foot structures have a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and communal area. They also come with all of the themed furniture and appliances that guests had come to expect when staying at Fort Wilderness. They even still have the Magicband touchpoints on the front doors!
Initially, Florida Manufactured Home Sales sold the cabins for $49,900. After seeing the demand, however, the price was increased to $59,000.
Inventory Is Running Out
Morrison now says that he has roughly 10 cabins left to sell, but he will not have them on hand until later this year or early next year.
“Reach out in December. That’s when we’ll know exactly how many we have remaining,” Morrison said. “We will have a waiting list for them.”
The price for the final cabins has yet to be determined.
“Keep your eyes open,” he said. “Some of these people who bought them aren’t going to be able to keep these things. I do anticipate a certain amount coming up for sale by owner.”
