Josh Brolin Told Tom Hiddleston “I’m Sorry” Before Thanos Killed Loki in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’
For Marvel fans who watched the films in chronological order, Avengers: Infinity War began in perhaps the most devastating way possible.
Coming on the heels of Thor: Ragnarok, which saw Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) finally reconcile and work together as brothers, Infinity War kicked off by having Thanos (Josh Brolin) brutally kill the God of Mischief in front of Thor’s eyes.

For fans who had watched Loki’s character development over the past seven years, it was a moment that was not only shocking but important. Loki’s death not only established the stakes that the Avengers were facing with Thanos, but it also made sure that audiences were paying attention right away.
A Touching Moment Between Brolin and Hiddleston
As the man tasked with killing Loki and ending Hiddleston’s MCU journey (at least temporarily), Brolin was acutely aware of how emotional the scene would be, not only for fans, but for Hiddleston himself.

In a recent interview with Variety, Hiddleston revealed a touching interaction he had with Brolin before shooting the now-infamous scene.
“It was a big day. I checked into my hotel, and within an hour or two, I had run into Josh Brolin, who could not have been kinder. He enveloped me in this enormous hug and he was like ‘I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry.'”

While Hiddleston knew about his character’s death years before the scene was shot, it was still an emotional time. Following the release of Avengers: Infinity War, Brolin told USA Today that he did not enjoy filming the brutal scene.
“He had been with that character for so long. And he’s so lauded for doing it. Tom was so vulnerable at that moment. So choking him out wasn’t the most fun thing I have ever done,” he said.
Marvel Treated Loki’s Death Like the End
Although Marvel fans know that Hiddleston’s journey would not, in fact, end with Loki’s death, according to Hiddlestone, the Infinity War team treated the scene like the finale.

“Then there was a big round of applause and everybody said ‘congratulations’ and ‘well done’ and ‘thank you, come and see us anytime, you’ll always be part of the family.’ But, you know, just when…never say never again, basically.”

Eventually, Hiddleston would return for both Avengers: Endgame and the Disney+ series Loki. While it appears that the actor’s time in the MCU has now come to an end with the conclusion of the latter, perhaps the God of Mischief has another trick up his sleeve.
