A Woman is Suing Disney After Being Knocked Unconscious at Typhoon Lagoon
Walt Disney Parks and Resorts has another lawsuit on its hands after a guest claims she was knocked unconscious and injured while riding a water slide at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon.
Laura Reyes-Merino visited the Walt Disney World water park on May 11 and rode Humunga Kowabunga. While on the high-speed water slide, in which guests ride down in a tube, Reyes-Merino says that she fell unconscious after “banging inside the ride.”
According to the lawsuit, her unconscious body was discovered by her fiance and mother at the bottom of the slide.
There Were No Lifeguards At the Bottom of the Slide
“The attendants told (Reyes-Merino’s) fiancé and mother that they were not lifeguards and would have to find lifeguards to help,” the lawsuit read. “As they were all waiting for help, blood kept coming out of (Reyes-Merino’s) mouth in the water.”
Reyes-Merino was eventually pulled from the water by her fiance. Once a lifeguard arrived, they said that they could not touch Reyes-Merino, and an ambulance was called.
“Had (Disney) had lifeguards at the end of the ride to watch and help guests coming off the ride, (Reyes-Merino’s) brain injury would not have occurred as she wouldn’t have been drowning in the water coughing up blood,” the lawsuit stated.
What Reyes-Merino Is Seeking
Reyes-Merino is seeking $50.000 in damages. She is also seeking additional compensation for costs, attorneys’ fees, and interest.
Disney, as is their policy, has not commented on the lawsuit.
