George Lucas Apparently Loved ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’
When Lucasfilm decided to continue the story of Obi-Wan Kenobi for 2022’s Disney+ series of the same name, the studio knew that it was treading on hallowed ground.
As the generation of kids who grew up with the Star Wars prequel trilogy reached adulthood, the films reached a level of popularity that had eluded them during their initial release. Perhaps more importantly, Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi became the definitive Star Wars character for a large segment of the fan base.

As Lucasfilm looked to continue the story of Kenobi in the period between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, they had to walk a fine line. How could they tell a fresh Obi-Wan Kenobi story while still returning the character to the place where audiences first met him in A New Hope?
Enter George Lucas
According to Lucasfilm Story Group member Pablo Hidalgo, the answer involved turning to George Lucas for advice.
During a recent interview with Full of Sith, Hidalgo revealed that the Obi-Wan team turned to Lucas before beginning production on the series.

“Part of that was interfacing with George. Early on, there was a conversation had with George over what his thoughts were…He was 100% supportive,” Hidalgo said.
As the series drew on the lore that Lucas laid the foundation for, it makes sense that he would be involved in the creation of Obi-Wan Kenobi, even if it was just tertiarily.

Happily, according to Hidalgo, Lucas enjoyed the final result.
“I’ve heard tell that it’s been one of [his] favorite things that’s come out of Star Wars. Because he recognizes so much of what he did in the prequels basically brought forward and celebrated it,” Hidalgo explained.
Will We Get an ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Season 2?
While Obi-Wan Kenobi was ostensively marketed as a limited series and appears to have concluded, fans have continued to clamor for a second season.

For now, however, Lucasfilm seems content to let the series end after one season. Still, with McGregor willing to return to his iconic role, we have likely not seen the last of Obi-Wan Kenobi.
