Chris Hemsworth Defends The MCU Against Criticism From Hollywood Luminaries
If there is one person who is qualified to talk about the current state of superhero movies, it is Chris Hemsworth.
Joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in 2011 as Thor, Hemsworth has seen the genre reach the highest heights and, more recently, lower lows. While Hemsworth has largely been lauded for his portrayal of the God of Thunder over the last thirteen years, he has had his share of poorly recieved films.

In short, he has seen both the good and the bad of Marvel’s box office dominance over the last decade and a half.
Hemsworth’s Defense of the MCU
In a recent interview with The Times, Hemsworth defended Marvel against directors like Martin Scorsese and Francais Ford Coppola, who have publically lambasted the MCU movies and the effect that they had on the box office.
“It felt harsh,” he said. “And it bothers me, especially from heroes. It was an eye-roll for me, people bashing the superhero space. Those guys had films that didn’t work too — we all have. When they talked about what was wrong with superheroes, I thought, cool, tell that to the billions who watch them. Were they all wrong?”

Some Hollywood luminaries have accused Marvel of killing the movie-going experience and creating films that are not “cinema.” Hemsworth believes they are missing the point.
“Cinema-going did not change because of superheroes, but because of smartphones and social media. Superhero films actually kept people in the cinemas during that transition and now people are coming back. So they deserve a little more appreciation.”
Will Hemsworth Return to the MUC?
Hemsworth’s analysis is astute. The box office thrived while Marvel films were at their peak, bringing in fans by the millions. When the MCU’s quality began to drop off, the box office also struggled.

After the disappointment of Thor: Love and Thunder, Hemsworth stated that he feels like he owes fans another Thor film. Hopefully, we will see the actor reprise his iconic role again in a Thor 5.
