Shawn Levy Says Fans Can Enjoy ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Without Being Caught Up on the MCU
Despite the fact that Deadpool & Wolverine will be the first Deadpool installment to be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), director Shawn Levy says that fans will be able to enjoy the film without being caught up with the broader Marvel universe.
Because of the sheer number of projects that Marvel has released over the last five years, even die-hard Marvel fans have begun to complain that it is hard to keep up.

To appease fans who may not be up to date on the latest Marvel multiversal happenings, the studio has launched the Marvel Spotlight banner on streaming. Shows released under the new banner will be “character-driven” stories that fans can enjoy without being caught up on the larger MCU.
‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Will Appeal to Die-Hards and Casual Fans Alike
While Deadpool & Wolverine does not fall under the Marvel Spotlight banner, according to Levy, the upcoming film will appeal to both Marvel die-hards and more casual fans alike.

“I was a good student in school. I’ll do my homework as an adult. But I am definitely not looking to do homework when I go to the movies,” Levy told the AP.

“I very much made this film with certainly a healthy respect and gratitude towards the rabid fan base that has peak fluency in the mythology and lore of these characters and this world. But I didn’t want to presume that. This movie is built for entertainment, with no obligation to come prepared with prior research.”
Marvel Is Counting on ‘Deadpool’
As Deadpool & Wolverine will be the only film released by Marvel Studios this year, Levy knows the stakes are high. Despite the MCU’s recent box-office struggles, however, the director believes that if the product is good enough, fans will still turn up at the movie theaters.

“Audiences are hungry for a great time at the movies,” Levy said. “They want to be delighted, transported and entertained. And when they are given that, whether it’s ‘Barbie,’ ‘Oppenheimer’ or any number of other recent movies, they show up. The movie is built for audience delight. I think that (they’re) in for a very fun ride.”
Levy’s faith and Marvel’s fortune will be put to the test when Deadpool & Wolverine arrive in theaters on July 26.
