Welcome back to our magical trip through Disney’s past. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- June 5.
June 5th featured the opening of a classic Walt Disney World Ride, the annoucment of a new Disney Park, and the premiere of an animated classic. So, let’s get started!

Artic Antics Released (1930)
On this day in 1930, the Silly Symphony Artic Antics was released.

The cartoon followed the adventures of polar bears, walruses, seals, and penguins.
If You Had Wings Opens (1972)
On this day in 1972, If You Had Wings opened in Walt Disney World.

Sponsored by Eater Airlines, the dark ride attraction took guests through tourist destinations such as Mexico City, New Orleans, and the Bahamas.
Disney Announces Disney’s Animal Kingdom (1995)
On this day in 1995, Disney announced that it would be constructing Disney’s Wild Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World.

The resort’s fourth gate would take inspiration from nature and the animals of the world. Construction was set to begin in August 1995.
Mulan Premieres (1998)
On this day in 1998, Mulan premiered at the Hollywood Bowl in California.

Disney’s newest animated feature was loosely based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan. The film would open across the United States on June 19.
Der Glockner Von Notre Dame Opens (1999)
On this day in 1999, Disney’s newest stage musical Der Glockner von Notre Dame opened in Berlin.

Based on the animated film The Huntchback of Notre Dame, the musical starred Drew Sarich as Quasimodo.
For the Birds Released (2000)
On this day in 2000, the Pixar short For the Birds was released at the Annecy Film Festival in France.

The 3 1/2-minute short would eventually be shown in theaters before 2001’s Monsters, Inc.
SpectroMagic Ends (2010)
On this day in 2010, SepctroMagic was performed for the final time at the Magic Kingdom.
First introduced in 1991 as part of the park’s 20th-anniversary celebration, the parade told the story of Mickey Mouse and the SperctroMagic Spectromen who together created the power of SpectroMagic.
So Random! Debuts (2011)
On this day in 2011, the Disney Channel original sketch series So Random! debuted.

The show featured the cast of Disney’s Sonny with a Chance, minus Demi Lovato.
The Incredibles 2 Premieres (2018)
Finally, on this day in 2018, The Incredibles 2 had its world premiere in Hollywood.

On hand for the festivities were Disney CEO Bob Iger, Holly Hunter, Samiel L. Jackson, Craig T. Nelson, Sophia Bush, and Brad Bird.
