REVIEW: This New EPCOT Cake is Inspired By…Trees?
A NEW food has arrived in Disney World — and it’s inspired by…trees??

EPCOT
Recently, we reported on a new treat coming to Connections Cafe in EPCOT, called Baumkuchen, which translates to tree (baum) and cake (kuchen). But what do trees have to do with it and, more importantly, is it tasty? Let’s find out!
Baumkuchen
We stopped by Connections Cafe to see what this treat is all about, and we did a little research beforehand. Baumkuchen is from German cuisine and it’s also quite popular in Japan. Its name comes from the fact that its slices look like tree rings!
Inside the cafe, we were able to get more info. This display explains, “Tree cake was first brought to Japan in the 1920s by a German confectioner. Since then, it has become a vibrant part of the Japanese culinary landscape under the name baumukūhen.”

It also says, “Japanese tree cakes…use bright and refreshing flavors like green tea and yuzu.”

One big pro of stopping by Connections Cafe is that you can watch the cakes getting made!

During our visit, we saw two versions of the Baumkuchen on display, including a vanilla-iced option and a chocolate-covered option.

Cakes on Display
We ordered the cake and were served the plain vanilla option. We were not offered the chocolate option and the Cast Member told us that if you don’t specify you want the chocolate one when you order, you’ll automatically get vanilla.
Your mileage may vary but keep in mind that you might want to specifically order the chocolate cake if that’s more your jam.

Although our MickeyBlogger would probably have preferred the chocolate option, the vanilla cake was delicious! It was simple and sweet and not at all heavy.
See how all those layers look like the rings of a tree?

We liked how light it was and it even left a great aftertaste. Trust us, a light dessert option in EPCOT is a huge find!
