May 28th was a big day in the history of the Walt Disney Company with the opening of a defining Disneyland attraction, the release of two live-action movies, and the opening of a Walt Disney World resort! So, let’s get going!

Oh, What A Knight Released (1928)
On this day in 1928, the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit short Oh, What a Knight was released.
Set in the Medieval Ages, Oswald must rescue Ortensia from her strict father Pete.
Mine Train Through Nature’s Wonderland Opens (1960)
On this day in 1960, Disneyland’s Mine Train Through Nature’s Wonderland opened.

An improved version of the Rainbow Cavern Mine Train, the new attraction featured between 200 Audio-Animatrinic animals, and took inspiration from Disney’s True-Life Adventure film series.
It’s A Small World Opens (1966)
On this day in 1966, it’s a small world opened at Disneyland.

The iconic Disney boat ride initially debuted at the 1964 World’s Fair. Walt Disney himself poured water from all around the world into the attraction’s moat. It’s a small world features 297 animated children and 256 toys!
The Gulf Coast Room Closes (1988)
On this day in 1988, the Gulf Coast Room closed at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

The restaurant was closed to make room for more convention space.
Construction On The Tower of Terror Begins (1993)
On this day in 1993, groundbreaking began on The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.
The attraction would eventually open
Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Opens (1994)
On this day in 1994, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge opened.

Inspired by the early American National Parks, Disney’s newest resort featured 728 rooms, surrounded by 56 acres of oak and pine trees.
The Main Street Electrical Parade Returns (1999)
On this day in 1999, the Main Street Electrical Parade returned to the Magic Kingdom.\
The parade was initially performed in the Magic Kingdom from 1977 until 1991.
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Released (2010)
On this day in 2010, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time was released.

Starring Jake Gyllenhaal as Prince Dastan, the film would become one of Disney’s biggest box office bombs.
Disney’s California Adventure Park Renamed (2010)
Also on this day in 2010, Disney announced that Disney’s California Adventure Park was changing its name.

The park was officially renamed Disney California Adventure.
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Opens (2014)
On this day in 2014, the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train officially opened in the Magic Kingdom.
Based on the Disney film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the family-friendly roller coaster was in development for over five years.

The opening of the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train officially marked the completion of the Magic Kingdom’s New Fantasyland.
Maleficient Premiers (2014)
Also on this day in 2014, Maleficient premiered at the El Capitan Theatre.

The Jungle Book: Alive With Magic Debuts (2016)
On this day in 2016, The Junge Book: Alive with Magic debuted at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Based on the live-action remake of The Jungle Book the nighttime show that served as a precursor to Rivers of Light.
Star Wars: Path of the Jedi Closes (2018)
On this day in 2018, Star Wars: Path of the Jedi closed in Tomorrowland.

Cruella Released (2021)
On this day in 2021, Cruella was released.\

Based on the Disney animated classic 101 Dalmations, the film starred Emma Stone as the title character.
