Jodi Benson Speaks Out About Disney’s Live Action ‘The Little Mermaid’
Disney’s Live-Action The Little Mermaid premieres tomorrow, and the original Ariel has something to say about it. Jodi Benson is speaking out, sharing her thoughts on the new film!
The Hollywood Reporter writes that the songstress recently had an interview with People magazine. During the discussion, she had nothing but good things to say about Disney’s live-action remake!
Benson shares “When you look at our film, we started in the studio in 1986 and we were released in 1989. Times change, people change, cultures change.”
“What matters and what is important changes. And, as a studio, we need to make those adjustments, and we need to take into consideration what’s going on around us. We need to be aware.”
Benson appreciates that Disney’s reimagining digs deeper when it comes to the characters. She thinks that it only adds to the story.
Benson shares, “I do feel all of the nuances and small, slight changes here and there are very important. It’s very important to address what’s going on right now in our world and to make it effective for our period of time, where we are right now in this generation.”
Being that she’s always felt “very protective” of Ariel, she was “thrilled” after seeing the new film. She shares, “Her integrity has been maintained.”
When referencing Bailey’s portrayal of the character, she refers to it as “absolutely beautiful.” She shares, “I loved everything that she did with the film. I love the acting, I love the singing and just the pure spirit. Her beautiful love for the character comes through. It’s just a beautiful, beautiful performance.”
The wait is almost over. Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid hits theaters tomorrow!
