This Day in Disney History- May 13
Welcome back to our continuing journey through the magical history of the Walt Disney Company. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- May 13.
May 13th featured the release of a Mickey Mouse cartoon, the debut of Disneyland’s Fantasmic, and the release of a fan-favorite film. It is also my wife’s birthday! Happy birthday Emily, I love you!

The Mail Pilot Released (1933)
On this day in 1933, the Mickey Mouse cartoon The Mail Pilot was released.
In the film Mickey is entrusted with a chest of money, but must fight off rain, snow and Pete to keep it safe.
Fantasmic! Dedicated (1992)
On this day in 1992, Fantasmic! was dedicated at Disneyland.
The nighttime spectacular uses fireworks, animatronics, and lasers to tell the story of Mickey taking on a slew of Disney villains.
Miracle in Lane Two Airs (2000)
On this day in 2000, The Disney Channel Original Movie Miracle in Lane Two aired.
The film to the story of Justin Yoder, the first person with a disability to compete in the All American Soapbox Derby.
Walt Disney World Bans Water Coolers
On this day in 2002, Disney ceased allowing guests to bring water coolers in to the Walt Disney World parks.
The change was done for safety reasons.
The Little Match Girl Released (2006)
On this day in 2006, the Disney animated short The Little Match Girl was released.
Directed by Roger Allers and produced by Don Hahn, the short would receive an Academy Award nomination.
UP Premiers at Cannes
Finally, on this day in 2009, The 62nd Cannes Film Festival kicked off with Disney-Pixar’s UP.
The film would be generally released on May 29, 2009.
