This Day in Disney History- May 11
Welcome back to our continuing trip through the history of the Walt Disney Company. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- May 11.
May 11th was a slower day in Disney history, but it still featured the release of a Silly Symphony, the crowning of a new Disney Princess, and the return of Disney to Broadway. So, let’s get going!
Water Babies Released (1935)
On this day in 1935, the Silly Symphony Water Babies was released.
The cartoon featured babies playing games in and out of the water.
Full House “The House Meets the Mouse” Airs (1993)
On this day in 1993, the Full House episode “The House Meets the Mouse” aired.
In the episode, the whole gang goes to Disney World and stays at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort.
Merida Becomes A Disney Princess (2013)
On this day in 2013, Merida from Brave was officially crowned as a Disney Princesses.
Her coronation took place in front of Cinderella Castle at Walt Disney World. On hand for the festivities were the other 10 Disney Princesses Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Jasmine, Belle, Mulan, Pocahontas, Tiana, and Rapunzel.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man Tell No Tales Premieres (2017)
On this day in 2017, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man Tell No Tales had its world premiere at Shanghai Disney Resort.
The film starred Johnny Depp, Kevin McNally, Geoffrey, Rush, and Javier Bardem. Dead Men Tell No Tales would open in theaters on May 26.
Wishes Is Performed For the Final Time (2017)
Also, on this day in 2017, Wishes: A Magical Gathering of Disney Dreams was performed for the final time at Walt Disney World.
The fireworks show had been running since 2003.
Shanghai Disneyland Reopens (2020)
On this day in 2020, Shanghai Disneyland officially reopened to the public.
The park had been close for four months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Disney Announces Return to Broadway (2012)
On this day in 2012, Disney announced that The Lion King- The Musical and Aladdin- The Musical would resume performance on Broadway.
After over a year of Broadway theaters being closed, both shows would resume performances in September.
