Crowds at Disney World Thin As We Head Into Second Week of May
I often get asked when a good time to visit Walt Disney World is for those looking to beat the crowds. One of my go-to months is May and a case in point is the photos taken by our MickeyBlogger at Magic Kingdom this morning! As you can see from these images, the crowds this morning are virtually non-existent!
Above is a look at what is usually a high-traffic area near Prince Charming Regal Carrousel in Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom.
As we walked through New Fantasyland near Ariel’s Grotto, we only saw one other family in the distance.
Another busy courtyard area in front of Gaston’s Tavern is also rather empty this Monday morning!
So why the lower crowds in May? With Spring Break and Easter holidays over and with families focusing on the home stretch to the end of the school year, May isn’t typically a popular time of year for family travel!
That’s why, if you can get away from work and school obligations, May (before Memorial Day) is a fantastic time to head to the parks.
Not only can May visitors enjoy lighter crowds (just look at all the open space in Tomorrowland this morning), but you can also benefit from resort discounts. Disney typically runs discounts to get heads on beds during non-busy times!
Lower crowds can also mean shorter lines and lower wait times which can minimize the need to rely on Genie+ and Lightning Lane!
So what do wait times look like today at Walt Disney World? As you can see, Many of the most popular attractions have wait times of 60 minutes.
However, some of the heavy-hitters still have long lines with Slinky Dog Dash, Avatar Flight of Passage, and Smugglers Run reporting that morning lines are over 90 minutes long.
There was a rush this morning as guests scurried into lines for their favorite attractions.
However, we expect that we may see those thin out a bit throughout the day. The big open patches of pavement point to a park that is considerably less busy than usual!
