Korean Fried Chicken Bowl Brings Heat to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
Walt Disney World is a fantastic foodie paradise every month of the year, but May especially is a fabulous time to visit!
This is because all month the resort celebrates Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month with “A World of Voices” celebration, meaning there are plenty of delicious treats inspired by these rich cultures for guests to enjoy. Today, our MickeyBlog reporters have been over in the Magic Kingdom resort area, enjoying some tasty snacks we wanted to share with you all here!
Today, our food tour took us to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, a beautiful hotel that is sure to shine during AAPI Heritage Month. Our reporters stopped by the amazing quick service restaurant Capt. Cook’s, where the smell of a sweet, spicy treat had our mouths watering…
Yep, our lunch today was this Korean Fried Chicken Bowl with Cucumber Namasu, and boy does it look delicious!
According to the special menu card, this dish was created by Chef Kevin, the Executive Chef from over at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, who took inspiration from his Mama Chong in crafting his ultimate Korean “comfort food.” It sounds delightful, so we couldn’t wait to give it a go!
As we read from the menu card, this delicious lunchtime dish consists of double-fried chicken thighs, tossed in a spicy Gochujang sauce. There are sesame seeds sprinkled on top, along with green onions and pickled cucumber, all of which served atop a bed of white rice. Yummy!
MickeyBlogger Kristen was the one who tried this out for us today, and she gave us a really fun insight into what she thought.
As the chicken was “double-fried,” the result was beautiful pieces of meat that were tender on the inside yet crispy on the outside, reminding Kristen of classic Disney chicken tenders. The sauce they were coated in was very spicy, meaning that fans who like the heat are definitely bound to enjoy this one!
Overall, Kristen confirmed this was a good dish she’d recommend, but did disclose that she probably wouldn’t order it again as someone who doesn’t love spicy food. Everyone has different tastes and preferences, so we’ll leave it up to you to decide whether to try this one!
If you would like to give it a try, head on down to Capt. Cook’s at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. The dish will be available until May 31st and costs $15.49 per portion. Enjoy!
