Barry Humphries Has Passed Away
Australian comedian and satirist Barry Humphries has died. He was 89.
Humphries was best known for his onscreen and stage drag persona Edna Everage, and his character Sir Les Patterson.

The BBC had previously reported that Humphries was in the hospital in Sydney, Australia, and had been suffering form complications following surgery in March.
Becoming Edna Everage
After working on the character for over a decade, Humphries’ Edna Evearge entered into pop culture consciousness when the character appeared in the Australasian cult films “The Adventures of Barry McKenzie” and “Barry McKenzie Holds his Own”, in which Humphries also played the titular character.

From 1987-98 Humphries had his own satiric talk show titled “The Dame Edna Experience”
He would later appear as Dame Edna on Saturday Night Live, the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The View.

Humphries and Dame Edna were also a constant presence on the stage. Humphries was in the original West End Production of “Oliver!” in 1963, originating the role of Mr. Sowerberry.
His one-person show “Dame Edna The Royal Tower” received a Special Tony Award in 2000, and his 2014 “Barry Humphries’ Farewell Tour- Eat, Pray, Laugh!” was nominated for an Oliver Award.

Bruce The Shark
Disney fans may recognize Humphries as the voice of Bruce the Shark in 2004’s “Finding Nemo”. Despite his intimidating apperance, Bruce is the leader of the “Fish-Friendly Sharks” and helps Merlin and Dory on their adventure.

Barry Humphries is survived by fourth wife Lizzie Spender, and four children.
