Disneyland Security Cast Members Get Significant Pay Increase
Fresh on the heels of the announcement that Walt Disney World College Program members would be getting a pay raise, comes news out of Disneyland.
According to the Orange County Register, Disneyland Resort security will get a substantial pay raise over the next two years, which will bring the minimum wage for the position to $26 an hour.
Staggard Pay Increases
Prior to the latest agreement, Disnyland security gueards were paid $18.10 per hour as a starting wage.
An initial $6 raise went into effect on April 1, 2023. On April 1, 2024, security guards will get another $1 raise, followed by a subsequent increase on April 1, 2025.
“We are more than pleased with the wage increase we were able to negotiate,” David Hickey, Security, Police, and Fire Professionals of America (SPFPA) ‘s international president.
The SPFPA represents over 1,300 Disneyland Resort security Cast Members.
All Eyes Turn To Walt Disney World
With Disneyland coming to an agreement with their security guards, all eyes will turn to Walt Disney World.
According to Hickey, Florida security guards will also be looking for a significant pay increase.
“The attitude about coming to work has changed, forcing companies to pay more,” Hickey said. “We have negotiations coming up at Disney World in Florida. They’re looking to have a major wage increase there, too.” He said
One issue that will be a major point of contention during negotiations will be scheduling.
“With COVID-19, companies have had difficulty scheduling enough people when some employees don’t or can’t come to work. Our union will work with Disneyland to have more input in scheduling. Our history with Disney around the country will help us deal with issues that may arise.” Hickey continued.
