The new movie has a few updates including new songs by Hamilton and Moana‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda and a modern twist to the classic tale.
If the movie’s runtime is longer, this will be the longest Disney live-action remake ever.
AMC Movie Listings

According to Screenrant, a recent listing by AMC Theatres listed the runtime of the movie to be 2 hours and 15 minutes.
This may simply be a placeholder listing made to appropriately plan out showtimes and schedules.

Why is this significant? If the time listings are correct, the new film will be the longest Disney live-action remake ever.
It beats the current record held by Cruella by one minute and surpasses the original 83-minute film by almost an hour.
Past Live-Action Musicals

This is not the first time Disney has re-made an animated classic with a live action musical. It is also not the first time the re-make is longer than the original.
Disney’s 2017’s Beauty and the Beast remake was longer than the animated original thanks to additional backstory and new musical numbers. A pattern that The Little Mermaid will potentially follow.

It has not been revealed how long and involved the new musical numbers are, but they could potentially account for some of the additional runtime.
Regardless of the runtime, fans are ready for this highly-anticipated film. Be sure to stay tuned to MickeyBlog for additional news and info!
