Doritos Were Born at this Unassuming Restaurant Inside Disneyland Park
An unassuming dining location in Frontierland holds an epic secret. Did you know that Doritos were born at Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante in Disneyland?
Locals are already privy to this lesser-known fact, but some still have yet to learn, so here we go!
Casa de Fritos
Formerly Casa de Fritos, the story goes that a salesman from the restaurant’s tortilla supplier noticed stale tortillas in a garbage can. He encouraged the cook to fry them up and sell them as chips rather than letting them go to waste.
Casa de Fritos took his advice, cooking up chips and seasoning them. While they were a hit with Guests, they weren’t coined as Doritos until later, when a Frito-Lay VP discovered their success while inside the Park, and made a deal to start selling them.
There’s more to this story, but I’ve always loved this little piece of Disney history! On our recent trip to Disneyland, per a special invitation from Disney, our MickeyBlogger made her way to the dining location, now known as Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante!
Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante
Tostada Salad
She ordered the Tostada Salad, one of the many fabulous items on the menu.
It comes in a traditional tortilla shell and contains Mexican rice, refried beans, and chopped lettuce, topped with a cilantro-lime vinaigrette, sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo, and cheese. Yummy!
Guests can order it with beef for $13.79, or with chicken for $12.79. Our MickeyBlogger opted for the chicken and was pleasantly surprised with its hearty portion size.
The meat is seasoned well, and she enjoyed its flavoring, which isn’t spicy. The toppings add a layer of freshness.
Cotija cheese is a must, when it comes to offerings like this, and we enjoyed its addition. In short, we loved this!
If you’re looking for some fuel for your Disneyland day, that won’t weigh you down, head to the birthplace of Doritos! Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante is where it’s at in Disneyland!
