Welcome back to our continuing journey though the history of the Walt Disney Company. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- April 2.
April 2nd was a big day in Disney history with the release of a new film, the debut of a Tomorrowland attraction, and the end of a classic Walt Disney World stage show! So, let’s get started!
Sagebrush Sadie Released (1928)
On this day in 1928, the Oswald cartoon Sagebrush Sadie was released.
In the cartoon, Oswald plays a cowboy who must rescue Sadie from a runaway stagecoach. The film is now considered lost.
Walt Disney Productions Offers First Public Shares (1940)
On this day in 1940, Walt Disney Productions offered share in the company to the public for the first time.
The company issued 600,000 shares of common stock for $5 a share.
Walt Disney’s Final TV Introduction Airs (1967)
On this day in 1967 Walt Disney’s final introduction on his Wonder World of Color TV series aired.
Walt had passed away less than four moths earlier. The final episode with a Walt introduction was A Salute to Alaska.
Aladdin’s Royal Caravan Debuts (1993)
On this day in 1993, Aladdin’s Royal Caravan debuted at Disneyland.
The Adventures of Huck Finn Opened (1993)
Also on this day in 1993, The Adventures of Huck Finn opened in theaters.
A retelling of Mark Twain’s classic novel, the film starred Elijah Wood as Huck.
SpectroMagic Returns (2001)
On this day in 2001, SpectroMagic returned to the Magic Kingdom after a 2-year hiatus.
The parade would continue to run until 2010.
Home On The Range Released (2004)
On this day in 2004, the animated film Home on the Range was released.
Set in the old wet, the film told the story of three dairy cows who must capture an infamous cattle rustler.
The Monsters. Inc. Laugh Floor Opens (2007)
On this day in 2007, Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor opened in Walt Disney World’s Tomorrowland.
The new Monsters, Inc. themed show transports guests to Monstropolis, where they sit in on monster hosted comedy show. The attraction utilized digital puppetry to allow the characters to interact with the audience.
Zeke and Luther Ends (2012)
On this day in 2012, Zeke and Luther ended on Disney XD.
The sitcom focused on two best friends were set on becoming the world’s greatest skateboarders. The show had premiered in June 2009.
Lights, Motors, Actions! Closes (2016)
On this day in 2016, Lights, Motors. Action! Extreme Stunt Show was performed for the final time at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The attraction was closed to make way for the upcoming Star Wars Land.
The Honey, I Shrunk the Kids: Movie Set Adventure Closes (2016)
Also on this day in 2016, the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids: Movie Set Adventure playground closed at the Disney’s Hollywood Studios,
The playground originally debuted in 1990.
Dream Along With Mickey Ends (2016)
Also on this day in 2016, Dream Along With Mickey was performed for the final time at the Magic Kingdom.
Originally debuting in 2006, the show was performed daily in front of Cinderella Castle.
