Welcome back to our continuing journey through Disney history, and welcome to April! Today we are looking at the the events on this day in Disney history- April 1!
April 1st was a huge day for Disney releases and new openings at Walt Disney World. So, let’s get right into it!

The Moth and the Flame Released (1938)
On this day in 1938, the Silly Symphony cartoon The Moth and Flame was released!

When a swarm of moths tear into “Ye Olde Costume Shop”, one pretty moth girl becomes fascinated by a candle flame.
Pioneer Hall Opens (1974)
On this day in 1974, Pioneer Hall opened at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground

The eventual home of the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue, the hall was built with 1,283 hand-fitted pine logs.
Discovery Island Opens (1976)
On this day in 1976, Discovery Island opened.

Formally known as Treasure Island, Discovery Island featured a walk-through aviary, tropical plants and exotic reptiles.
Disney MovieToons Opens (1990)
On this day in 1990, Disney MovieToons opened a facility in Glendale, California.

The new division of Walt Disney Animation Studios began producing films with DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp and was shut down following 2015’s Tinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast in 2015.
Blizzard Beach Opens (1995)
On this day in 1995, Blizzard Beach opened at Walt Disney World.
Themed as a “melted ski resort”, Blizzard Beach was Walt Disney World’s third water park.
Dixie Landings Becomes Port Orleans Riverside (2001)
On this day in 2001, Dixie Landings was officially renamed Port Orleans Riverside.

The resort was combined with the Port Orleans resort, which was renamed Port Orleans French Quarter.
Disneyland Paris 20th Anniversary Begins (2012)
On this day in 2012, Disneyland Paris 20th anniversary celebration began.

As part of the festivities, the Disney Magic on Parade officially debuted, as did the nighttime spectacular “Disney Dreams!”.
The Pirate Fairy Released (2014)
On this day in 2014, The Pirate Fairy was released direct-to-video.

In the film, Tinker Bell and her friends go in search for a wayward fairy, who joined up with the future Captain Hook.
Disney Polynesian Villas & Bungalows Opens (2015)
On this day in 2015, Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows opened.

Located on the Seven Seas Lagoon, the Polynesian bungalows were latest Disney Vacation Club offering.
Armageddon- Les Effets Speciaux Closes (2019)
On this day in 2019, Armageddon- Les Effets Speciaux closed in Walt Disney Studios Park at Disneyland Paris closed.
Opening with the park in 2002, the attraction demonstrated the special effects from the 1998 film Armageddon.
Kevin Rafferty Retires (2021)
On this day in 2021, Imagineer Kevin Rafferty retired from the Walt Disney Company.
Rafferty was instrumental in the creation of Cars Land, Toy Story Midway Mania!, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, and Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway.
Better Nate Than Ever Released (2022)
Finally, on this day in 2022, Better Nate Than Ever was released on Disney +.

The film told the story of 13-year-old Nate Foster who fantasizes about becoming a big Broadway star.
