Disney Finds Its Lilo

Of all the Disney live-action remakes in recent years, there may not be a tougher role to fill than Lilo and Stitch.

The little girl with the big personality has won over generations of fans with her blunt enthusiasm and zest for life.

Lilo, and her eventual bond with Stitch, has helped the 2002 Lilo & Stitch remain a cult favorite.

Disney Casts Lilo

With a live-action Lilo and Stitch on the horizon, Disney is turning to newcomer Maia Kealoha portray the titular young girl.

A young Hawaiian actress, Kealoha won the role after a nationwide open call for the role.

The film will be directed by ‘Marcel the Shell With Shoes On’ director Dean Fleisher Camp.

Production Delayed

Last month Zach Galifinakais joined the cast. While it has yet to be officially announced what role Galifianakis will be playing, speculation is swirling that he will portray Pleakley.

Lilo and Stitch will debut directly on Disney+. Production on the film was expected to start in February, but has since been delayed.

Released in 2002, Lilo and Stitch told the story of a young girl and her developing friendship with a mischievous alien names Stitch. The film’s themes of family, unconditional love, and acceptance resonated with audiences and critics alike.
