March 27th featured the first public announcement about Disneyland, the dedication of the Disney-MGM Studios, and the debut of a new Disney + series. So, let’s get started!
First Public Disneyland Announcement (1952)
On this day in 1952, the first public announcement of Walt Disney’s plan build Disneyland appeared.
The article “Walt Disney Make-Believe Land Project Planned Here- $1.5 Million Dreamland to Rise on Site in Burbank appeared in the Burbank Daily Review.
Disney-MGM Groundbreaking Takes Place (1985)
On this day in 1985, the Disney-MGM official groundbreaking took place.
On hand for the festivities were Hollywood legend Bob Hope. The park would eventually open in 1989.
Walt Disney World Casting Center Opens (1989)
On this day in 1989, the Walt Disney World Casting Center opened in Florida.
The new building was designed by architect Robert A.M. Sherman for use as Walt Disney World’s employment and recruiting headquarters.
The E.P. Ripley Steam Engine Rededicated (1999)
On this day in 1999, the E.P. Ripley Steam Engine was rededicated.
The train, which had been in service since Disneyland’s opening day, was completely restored. The E.P. Ripley was the Disneyland’s Railroad’s Steam Engine No. 2.
Disney Announces New Locomotive (1999)
Also on this day in 1999, Disney announced that it had acquired a new locomotive for use on the Disneyland Railroad.
The Stream Engine No. 5 would be dedicated as the Ward Kimball.
Celebrate! A Street Party Debuts (2009)
On this day in 2009, Disneyland’s Celebrate! A Street Party debuted.
Taking inspiration from High School Musical, the seasonal parade featured dancers, acrobats, and Disney characters.
Disney Junior- Live on Stage! Opens (2011)
On this day in 2011, Disney Junior- Live on Stage! opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The attraction was an updated version of Playhouse Disney- Live on Stage!, which had been closed since January 2011.
Be Our Chef Debuts (2020)
Finally, on this day in 2020, Be Our Chef debuted on Disney +.
The cooking competition series was filmed at Walt Disney World.
