Welcome back to our continuing trip through the history of the Walt Disney Company. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- March 25.
March 25th featured the release of a live-action classic, the beginning of a national Broadway tour, and the end of a Disney celebration. So, let’s get started!
The Misadventures of Merlin Jones Released (1964)
On this day in 1964, The Misadventures of Merlin Jones premiered at New York.
The film starred Tommy Kirk, Annette Funiceelo and Leon Ames and was set at Medfield College.
Lillian Disney Gets Medal (1969)
On this day in 1969, President Richard Nixon presented Lillian Disney with a special commemorative medal that had been authorized by Congress.
The coin featured Walt Disney on one side and Mickey Mouse on the other.
Thunder in Paradise Airs (1994)
On this day in 1994, Thunder in Paradise debuted in syndication.
Starring Hulk Hogan, the show was produced out of the Disney-MGM Studios and filmed primarily at the Grand Floridian Resort.
D2: The Mighty Ducks Released (1994)
Also on this day in 1994, D2: The Mighty Ducks was released.
The second film in The Mighty Ducks franchise, the film sees the ducks competing in an international competition.
Disneyland Paris Attractions Previewed (2000)
On this day in 2000, previews were held for Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril: Backwards and The Tarzan Encounter at Disneyland Paris.
The rides would officially open on April 1, 2000.
Mary Poppins Tour Begins (2009)
On this day in 2009, the North American National Tour of Mary Poppins opened in Chicago.
The run starred Ashley Brown as Mary Poppins and Gavin Lee as Bert.
The Suite Life Movie Airs (2011)
On this day in 2011, The Suite Life Movie remembered on The Disney Channel.
The film was a continuation of The Suite Life on Deck, and featured Cody getting a chance to study at the prestigious Gemini Institute.
So Random! Ends (2012)
On this day in 2012, So Random! ended on the Disney Channel.
The sketch comedy show featured the cast of Sonny with a Chance, minus Demi Lovito.
Tokyo Disney Resort 35th Anniversary Ends (2019)
Finally, on this day in 2019, The Tokyo Disney Resort 35th Anniversary ended.
The celebration began on April 15, 2018.
