Disney Legend Dick Van Dyke Involved In Single Car Accident

Disney Legend and national treasure Dick Van Dyke was involved in a single-car accident this morning when the legendary actor lost control of his Lexus and crashed into a gate.

The accident left Van Dyke, 97, with a bloody nose and possible concussion, although his injuries thankfully appear to be minor.

The accident occurred Wednesday morning in Malibu.

Here’s What Happened

The Mary Poppins star told police that his car skidded in the rain, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The Lexus then smashed into a nearby gate.

A nearby onlooker named Jason Pennington rose to the occasion after seeing a smoking car on the side of the road.

Seeing an elderly man hunched over the wheel of the vehicle, Pennington rushed to the scene and helped the actor.

Mr. Van Dyke Was Luckily OK

According to police, Van Dyke was treated on the scene by paramedics and was not sent to a hospital. Instead, the actor was picked up by a friend and driven home.

While police ruled out drugs or alcohol was a cause for the accident, Van Dyke will be required to complete a driving test due to his advanced age.

A Legendary Career

Van Dyke, whose storied career has spanned seven decades, has remained active in his old age.

Last month, the Hollywood legend delighted viewers of the singing competition The Masked Singer with his performance as the Gnome.

Luckily, today’s accident appears to be simply a bump in the road for the American icon. We, of course, wish Mr. Van Dyke a speedy recovery.
