This Day in Disney History- March 19
Welcome back to our magical trip through the Walt Disney Company’s past. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- March 19.
March 19th featured the release of live-action classic, the closure of three Main Street USA mainstays, and the debut of the newest Marvel series. So, let’s get started.
Bright Lights Released (1928)
On this day in 1928, the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit short Bright Lights was released.
In the short, Oswald attempts to see a female performer by sneaking backstage.
Mickey Down Under Released (1948)
On this day in 1948, the Mickey Mouse cartoon Mickey Down Under was released.
In the short, Mickey and Pluto visit Australia, where they get in trouble when Pluto tries to steal a giant emu’s egg.
The Shaggy Dog Released (1959)
On this day in 1959, The Shaggy Dog was released.
The film starred Tommy Kirk as Wilby Daniels, a teenage boy who is transformed into a sheep dog when he comes across a cursed Borgia ring.
Main Street Shops Close (1995)
On this day in 1995, the Penny Arcade, Main Street Book Store, and House of Magic all closed on Main Street USA.
The three shops would be incorporated into the Main Street Athletics Company, and eventually the Emporium.
Doug’s 1st Movie Premieres (1999)
On this day in 1999, Doug’s 1st Movie premiered.
Based on the popular animated series, the film saw Doug and Skeeter setting out to find the monster of Lucky Duck Lake.
Minnie Oh! Minnie! Ends (2018)
On this day in 2018, the musical show Minnie Oh! Minnie! was performed for the final time at Tokyo Disneyland.
The show had been running in Adventureland since April 2004.
The Falcon and the Winter Solider Debuts (2021)
Finally, on this day in 2021 The Falcon and the Winter Solider premiered on Disney +.
Set following the events of Avengers: Endgame, the show starred Sebastian Stan as the Winter Solider and Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson.
