There May Be A Future For ‘Willow’ After All
When news broke yesterday that Willow had been canceled after just one season on Disney+, fans of the franchise were devastated.
The series, like the original movie, had developed a cult following of fervent fans.

If you count yourself among the Willow faithful, I have good news. While Season 2 of Willow will not begin production anytime soon, series creator Jonathan Kasdan says that the show is not done yet.
“The Truth is Less Splashy”
In an open letter to “Willow Supporters,” Kasdan gave fans more clarity into the future of the show.
“The truth is less splashy, but here it is. A decision was made last week to release our main cast for other series opportunities that may arise.”
Kasdan explained that with without knowing when a new season of Willow would be produced, it felt unfair to limit an actor’s availability.

In terms of what this news meant for Willow‘s future, Kasdan explained that with the new steaming industry struggling, Willow will not resume filming in the next 12 months.
A Future For Willow
With that being said, however, Kasdan remained optimistic about the show’s future.
“But here’s what’s equally true: with the enthusiastic and unwavering support of Lucasfilm and Disney, we’ve developed and written what we hope is a brain-meltingly fun, richer, darker, and better VOLUME II,” he wrote.
More bluntly, Kadsan declared, “Are we going into pre-production? Not right now. Does that mean we’re never going to make it? Absolutely not.”

So there you have it. Kasdan concluded his letter by noting that in today’s Hollywood, nothing is ever really gone. The creator was confident that if an appetite for more Willow persists, the show would be back.
If you are a Willow fan, have hope. While we may not see Willow Ufood and Elora Danan soon, it sounds like it is “see you later” and not “goodbye.”
