The Walt Disney Company Takes Home Two Academy Awards
Last night was the 95th Academy Awards and The Walt Disney Company was nominated for a whopping 22 awards!
From nominations for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever to Pixar’s Turning Red to the blockbuster Avatar: The Way of Water, Disney had quite a few film accomplishments this year — and there were two lucky Academy Award winners.
Best Costume Design — Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Costume designer Ruth E. Carter took home the Oscar for Best Costume Design for Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, her second Oscar win in the same category, which she previously received for Black Panther in 2019.
Carter is now the first Black woman to win multiple Oscars!
Carter has been previously nominated for Costume Design in films such as Malcolm X and Amistad. In her acceptance speech, Carter thanked the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for “recognizing this superhero that is a Black woman.”
Best Visual Effects — Avatar: The Way of Water
And when it comes to Best Visual Effects, Avatar: The Way of Water took home the Oscar win. The sequel to Avatar recently hit a major milestone, becoming the third highest-grossing film of all time.
