Ride the Disneyland Carousel with Mary, Bert and the Pearly Band!
Could there be anything more classically Disney than Mary Poppins and Bert on a carousel horse?!
Our MickeyBlogger Abby is in Disneyland today, and one of the first glimpses of the original magic strolled right past her this morning. Mary, Bert and the Pearly Band!
If you aren’t familiar with the Pearly Band by name, you will certainly recognize them from the scene in Mary Poppins that gave us the iconic “Supercalifragilisticexpiealidocious”!

Fun Fact: The animated troupe was named after the Pearly Kings and Queens, a working-class group in 19th Century London. The group imitated the showy, wealthy society by sewing lines of pearls onto their clothes and exuberantly parading around the streets to raise money for those less fortunate.
You can see the lines of pearls on the clothes in Mary Poppins as well as on the costumes of the cast members here in Disneyland! (The real “Pearlies” still exist today with a philanthropic presence in various London neighborhoods.)
Mary, Bert and the band made their way through Fantasyland to King Arthur’s carousel and greeted waiting Guests around the attraction before hopping aboard.
Mary rode on the special horse presented to Julie Andrews during Disneyland’s 50th Anniversary in 2005!
The horse features designs representing Mary’s talking parrot-handled umbrella, high button shoes, a silhouette of Mary in flight, and a “JA” monogram.
There’s also a Hidden Mickey painted in back, right beneath her cantle! The horse itself was formerly Walt’s favorite lead horse, Jingles, who the horse in the film was originally designed after!
