Your Guide to the Awesome Activities at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campgrounds
If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog you’ll know that one of my favorite places to stay at Walt Disney World is Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. Not only is this property spacious and stunning with incredible amenities but its range of activities is unrivaled at Walt Disney World.
With that in mind, we thought we’d give you a quick rundown of some of the incredible activities you can enjoy during your visit. Whether you opt to stay at a cabin, campsite or are just visiting Fort Wilderness for the day, give some of these activities a go!
Movie Under the Stars
Once the sun goes down, visitors to Walt Disney World Resort will enjoy curling up with your family and watching your favorite films under the stars. These complimentary movie screenings are the perfect way for families to relax and unwind.
For the movies scheduled during your stay, check with the front desk at your Walt Disney World resort.
Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides
Treat your family to something special with a scenic horse-drawn carriage ride along the trails around the Cabins and Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort. Head over to Crockett’s Tavern where you’ll find your carriage waiting for you. Rides are 25 minutes long and cost $55. The carriages can fit up to 4 adults or 2 adults and 3 small children.
Advanced reservations are essential and can be made via the My Disney Experience app, up to 60 days in advance. There is a 1-day cancellation policy. Alternatively you can contact your travel agents. On occasion, same day reservations can be made but availability is not guaranteed. Those arriving by vehicle should not that you can park at the main entrance and take a complimentary bus to Settlement Depot.
Horseback Riding
Go horseback riding through the lush scenic Cyprus trails found at The Cabins and Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort. Horseback riding is available for guests 9 years and up and can ride through the woodland areas of Fort Wilderness teeming with deer, ducks, armadillos and rabbits. The trail ride is suitable for beginner and intermediate rides. Horses are trained to keep a steady walking pace.
The horseback riding sessions at Fort Wilderness takes 45 minutes and is $55 per person. Reservations can be made via My Disney Experience or by contacting your Travel Agent. Reservations can be made up to 60 days in advance. Some same-day reservations may be available but are not guaranteed.
Guests check in at the Tri-Circle D-Ranch located near the main entrance of Fort Wilderness. Guests must be over 48 inches tall and weigh under 250 pounds.
Fishing
Get ready to reel in the fun with special guided excursions and dockside fishing on select waterways at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. You’ll be fishing the old-fashioned way with casting-rod fishing experience.
Guests check in at the Bike Barn at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. Guests should note that fishing at Walt Disney World is catch-and-release only.
Pools
Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground has two fabulous pool areas. The first is Meadow Swimmin’ Pool where you can make a splash on the 67 foot long corkscrew waterslide. There’s also a whirlpool spa for adults to enjoy. Little ones will also enjoy the adjacent fort-themed water play area with pint-sized tot-friendly slides. There’s also a shop nearby offering refreshments and snacks.
There’s also the Wilderness Swimmin’ Pool. This all-ages leisure pool also features a whirlpool spa and is the perfect place for a tranquil swim.
Guests should note that the Meadow Swimmin’ Pool along with its whirlpool spa, waterslide and aquatic play area will be closed for refurbishment through April 2023. The Meadow Snack Bar will also be closed during this time. Wilderness Swimmin’ Pool and its nearby whirlpool spa will remain open.
Canoeing
Explore the inlets and waterways of Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. Canoe rentals are available from 9am – 5pm daily at the Bike Barn at the Meadow Recreation Area. The cost to go canoeing is $13 per hour.
Reservations are not required. Rentals are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Guests must be 18 years or over (id is required) to rent a canoe. Complimentary life jackets must be worn.
Kayaking
Enjoy the serene waterways of the Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort with a Kayaking Rental. You can enjoy a family paddling adventure on the campground’s scenic streams and ponds. Kayaks can be picked up at The Bike Barn at the Meadow Recreation Area from 9 am – 5pm daily. The price for kayaks is $13.00 per hour. Reservations are not required and are on a first-come, first-served basis.
Guests must be 18 years of age or older to purchase the kayak rental (ID is required.) A minor 12 and up can also rent a kayak if a parent or guardian 18 or older is present.
Jogging and Walking Trails
Go jogging or walking on the wondrous trails along Seven Seas Lagoon. At Fort Wilderness Resort you’ll find a 3.1 mile-long pathway that winds through the shaded, scenic back country.
Fort Wilderness Archery Experience
Walt Disney World guests 7 years of age and up can learn how to hold and fire a compound bow during this 75-minute session. You’ll be instructed on how to zero in on the bullseye with a short training lesson. Class sizes are limited to 10 guests and each marksman receives personalized advice from Archery Guides.
Advance reservations are highly recommended. Walk-ups may be available if space permits. Family and friends not participating can watch from a designated viewing area. The cost to participate is $45 per person.
Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Campfire Singalong
Join friends Chip ‘n’ Dale for a nightly campfire celebration featuring incredible toe-tapping tunes and chance to interact with this loveable chipmunk duo. You’re sure to enjoy crooning along with old-time favorite tunes led by a guitar-playing cowboy. Chip ‘n’ Dale will be on hand to pose for photos, sign autographs and more.
During the singalong you can roast marshmallows. You can bring your own or purchase a s’mores kit from the Chuckwagon Snack Bar near the campfire location. The event is followed by Movies Under the Stars.
