Why Disney’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Virtual Queue is Here to Stay
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind opened in EPCOT in May 2022, and since then it has utilized a virtual queue for all guests.
With the opening of TRON Lightcycle / Run in Magic Kingdom coming soon and Cosmic Rewind’s recent instances of the virtual queue remaining open for a while after opening, some have wondered whether a traditional standby line might be introduced. Well, we have an answer.
Cosmic Rewind’s Virtual Queue
Ever since Cosmic Rewind opened in May 2022, there are a few ways guests can ride the ride. A virtual queue opens at 7AM to guests with EPCOT park reservations or to guests inside EPCOT at 1PM.
Individual Lightning Lanes are also available for purchase, and occasionally deluxe hotel guests can enter the virtual queue at 6PM on Extended Evening Hours nights.
Historically, the virtual queue has been a temporary option used by Disney immediately after a new ride has opened. We’ve seen some virtual queues last for months while others have been quickly discontinued, like Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Disneyland.
When a virtual queue is in place there is no standby line, meaning you will not be able to ride without a virtual queue spot or Individual Lightning Lane purchase.
Many of us have been wondering whether the Cosmic Rewind virtual queue would be replaced by a traditional standby queue once TRON opens on April 4th, 2023. However, it looks like the Cosmic Rewind virtual queue is here to stay.
Scott Gustin shared on Twitter that he has confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will continue to use a virtual queue when TRON Lightcycle / Run opens in Magic Kingdom on April 4th.

This technically means that if you play your cards right, you could get a spot in the virtual queues for both TRON and Cosmic Rewind! What you need to do is secure one virtual queue at 7AM, and then park hop to the second park at 2PM and hope there is still availability in the 1PM virtual queue.
For example, we would make sure to have a Magic Kingdom park reservation in order to get a spot in the TRON queue at 7AM, since the newer ride is likely to fill up faster. As long as you have a Park Hopper ticket, you can then park hop to EPCOT at 2PM and join the 1PM Cosmic Rewind queue, as long as there is still space.
You can ride both rides even more if you purchase Individual Lightning Lanes or are staying in a deluxe hotel on an Extended Evening Hours night!
