Here is How to Have Rainy Day Fun at Disney!
Picture this MickeyBlog friends: You wait all year for your amazing Disney vacation. You arrive and are ready for an amazing day of fun when you get hit with a rainy day or afternoon thunderstorm!
Oh no! Is your vacation ruined? Not at all! The good news is most inclement weather and afternoon showers pass quickly!
And while Orlando is known for its sunny weather and warm temps, you may encounter some rain while visiting Central Florida.
But no need to let that dampen your vacation fun! Grab your poncho and your sense of adventure and read on!
We have some great ways to wait out the storms and still have rainy day fun at Disney!
It is Time to Resort Hop!
Grab the bus, board a Disney skyliner, take a Minnie Van, or ride the monorail. One of my favorite things to do on a gloomy, rainy day is explore the other resorts!
The monorail makes it easy to hop on and off and visit the three monorail resorts: Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, Disney’s Contemporary Resort, and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.
But it is just as easy to take any Disney transportation and explore the other resorts.
Each hotel is uniquely themed and truly its own destination.
Character sightings, cool dining experiences, and souvenir shopping and boutiques are available at each of the resorts giving you plenty to explore on a rainy day.
Need some ideas?
Grab a DOLE Whip at the Pineapple Lanai in the Polynesian and check out the tropical merchandise in BouTiki!
Immerse yourself in victorian charm at Grand Floridian. Check out the unique soaps and lotions at Basin, or grab a drink and listen to the live piano music in the lobby!
If I’m hungry, I’ll check if there are any openings and see if I can discover a new restaurant to try!
Take Advantage of an Indoor Show
The good news? Just because it’s raining doesn’t mean the entire park shuts down!
Now is the perfect time to check out the indoor shows that provide great entertainment and a fun way to wait out the rain!
Mickey’s PhilharMagic, the Tiki Room, and the Country Bear Jamboree are all great indoor attractions at the Magic Kingdom!
You can escape the elements and become an honorary bug at Animal Kingdom’s 4D adventure, It’s Tough to Be a Bug!
This is a great distraction that is still fun for the little ones.
Or check out the Broadway-style show, Festival of the Lion King. Revel in 30 minutes of song, dance, and puppetry that bring the classic movie to life- and all while avoiding the rain.
Muppet Vision 3D is a great indoor option/show at Hollywood Studios!
And if you are at EPCOT, head over to World Showcase to view inside attraction films: Reflections of China, O’Canada, or Impressions de France.
Grab Some Grub
When afternoon storms arrive, it is time to grab food! Now is the perfect time to eat and take a break.
Rainy days (especially all day rainy days) mean plans change and cancellations pop up!
Check for last minute openings at your favorite dining experiences!
Catch the Newest Flick
Dinner and a movie have a whole new meaning at this state-of-the-art theater located in Disney Springs. It offers an excellent selection of current films and is a great way to escape the weather!
I recommend the AMC Dine-in experience when storms are passing through. Reserved comfy seating, dine-in eats, and the MacGuffins Bar elevates this from your average movie experience.
Make a Strike!
This is a great place for rainy day fun! Enjoy luxury bowling located in the heart of Disney Springs!
This 50,000 square foot bowling alley features 30 lanes, billiards, bars, and live entertainment. Plenty of fun for everyone!
And after you’ve had hours of fun, you can relax and enjoy some upscale “alley” food. Splitsville features a unique menu of fun cocktails and delicious eats. It is the perfect way to spend a rainy afternoon!
