This Day in Disney History March 4
Welcome back to our continuing trip through Disney history. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- March 4!
March 4th featured the opening of a classic Disneyland attraction, the advent of the Disney VHS, and the release of a popular animated film. So, let’s get into it!
The Country Bear Jamboree Opens (1972)
On this day in 1972, the Country Bear Jamboree opened in Disneyland.
The audio-animatronic stage show was originally intended for Disney’s unbuilt Mineral King Ski Resort. Eventually, the first Country Bear Jamboree opened in the Magic Kingdom.
The show proved to be so popular that Imagineers made a version for Disneyland.
Disney Releases Their First VHS Tapes (1980)
On this day in 1980, Disney released its first group of VHS tapes.
Films released included: Pete’s Dragon, The Black Hole, The Love Bug, Escape to Witch Mountain, Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, The North Avenue Irregulars, The Apple Dumpling Gang, and Hot Lead and Cold Feet.
40 Years Adventure Airs (1995)
On this day in 1995, 40 Years of Adventure aired.
The television special commemorated the 40th Anniversary of Disneyland and the opening of the Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye.
Spaceship Earth Rededicated (2008)
On this day in 2008, Spaceship Earth was rededicated.
The attraction was now presented by Siemens.
Zootopia Opens in Theaters (2016)
On this day in 2016, Zootopia opened in the United States.
Disney’s 55th animated film, the film told the story of a rabbit who has always dreamed of being a police officer, and a con-man fox.
Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway Opens (2020)
On this day in 2020, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The new dark ride attraction was the first ride at any Disney park to star Mickey Mouse!
