Prep For Your Runaway Railway Experience With These Must-Watch Shorts
If you’re planning a trip to Disneyland park, you’ll know that the hot ticket at the Happiest Place on Earth is Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway which recently opened in Toontown! If you’re queuing up for the ride, really take you time and check out all of the incredible details that Disney Imagineers have women into the El CapiTOON theater! And, if you you really want to make the most out of your visit, you can check out our list of fun short films below.
Many of the details you’ll find in the Runaway Railway queue were inspired by these magical animated moments.
Steamboat Willie (1928)
As you enter the El CapiTOON, you’ll notice some props from the Mickey-focused film that started it all – Steamboat Willie. The Runaway Railway queue features a recreation of the steamboat helm from the film and it’s interactive so give it a whirl.

Sorcerer’s Apprentice – Fantasia (1940)
Second on our list is one of the most iconic roles that Mickey has played over the years – the Sorcerer’s Apprentice from Fantasia.

One of the biggest displays you’ll encounter on the Runaway Railway queue are props from “Sorcerer’s Apprentice.” Be on the lookout for the Sorcerer’s hat which we heart even has some magic leftover!

Lonesome Ghosts (1937)
I love this short! You join Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy as ghost hunters working for the “Ajax Ghost Exterminator” agency. They’re tasked with removing ghosts from McShiver Mansion.
As you make your way through the Runaway Railway queue, be on the lookout for a phone and dresser from the film. We’re told that if you gaze long enough into the haunted mirror it also bears a special surprise!

Mickey’s Birthday Party (1942)
If you haven’t check out the Mickey’s Birthday Party Short, its definitely worth doing! This animated soiree has it all, singing, dancing a volcanic cake and more!
Once you’ve watched the film, be on the lookout for Mickey’s birthday cake and outfit from the film on display!
Where to Watch: Check out the remastered short version of “Mickey’s Birthday Party” on Mickey Mouse YouTube and Disney.com. The complete original 9-minute version is available to stream on Disney+.
Mickey and the Beanstalk (1947)
You’ve probably seen this beloved classic but even so, it’s definitely worth a re-watch! Mickey and the Beanstalk is based on the fairy tale “Jack and the Beanstalk” and follows Mickey, Donald and Goofy who climb up into the sky and come face-to-face with a fearsome giant and a golden harp!
At the El CapiTOON theater, you’ll find pieces of memorabilia taken directly from the giant town above the clouds.
There’s also a beanstalk that reaches right through the ceiling of the Runaway Railway queue.
Where to Watch: “Mickey And The Beanstalk” can be streamed on Disney+ as an animated featurette in “Disney Fun and Fancy Free.”
Pluto’s Christmas Tree (1952)
Next, it’s time to get festive with Pluto’s Christmas Tree which is one of two holiday features to make it onto our list! In the short, Pluto does his upmost to stop those rascals Chip ‘n Dale from ruining Christmas.
As you walk through the holiday display, pay careful attention to the mantle. Do you see the Santa Candles where Dale tried to blend in to avoid getting caught by Mickey?

Mickey’s Christmas Carol (1983)
Mickey’s Christmas Carol is another important Disney classic that features in the El CapiTOON exhibit.
On display is Bob Cratchit’s antique wooden desk.

The Prince and the Pauper (1990)
Another fantastic fairy tale given a Disney twist, The Prince and the Pauper told the tale of two boys who look exactly alike and decided to switch places. A pauper named Mickey becomes the Crown Prince and vice versa. Despite their differences they must join forces to save the kindgom from Captain Pete.
The Runaway Railway queue features the costumes for the film which are nothing short of adorable.

Mickey Mouse Shorts – Potatoland (2013) Season 1, Episode 13
If you haven’t seen Potatoland, you don’t know what you’re missing! This heartwarming tale of friendship focuses on Mickey and Donald who team up to make Goofy’s dream of seeing Potatoland come to life.
As you wander toward the Concessions Stand at the El CapiTOON Theater where you’ll come across a potato dress as “President Spud.”
Where to Watch: “Potatoland” can be viewed on Mickey Mouse YouTube and streamed as part of “The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse” — on Disney+.
Mickey Mouse Roadster Racers (2017)
We go contemporary for our last props! We’ve got some awesome items in the Runaway Railway queue that were inspired by the beloved Disney Junior show. For those unfamiliar Mickey Mouse Roadster Racers features Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Minnie and Daisy who run a garage in “Hot Dog Hills.”
The items from the Roader Racers Collection are sure to have you saying “Hot diggity dog!”
