Disney Cast Member Overcomes Personal Challenges and Creates Culinary Success
Meet Christian Miranda.
This talented Cast Member had always dreamed of becoming a chef and with the support of his Disney team, he made those dreams come true.

Christian, who is Deaf and has a visual disability, proved that with dedication, hard work, and amazing support, nothing can get in the way of your dreams.

Christian is a huge Star Wars fans and began working on Batuu in June of 2021.
He started as a busser at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo, but shortly after moved into his current role as a cook.

Christian partnered with a team at Disney dedicated to facilitating accommodations for Cast Members.
His leadership found creative ways and created unique opportunities for Christian’s career progression.

In a recent Disney Cast Life Article, Chef Jerry Gonzales shared, “From basic kitchen safety to communicating orders by creating a system that uses pictures, a lot of the actions we’ve taken to accommodate Christian are new. It’s been a great learning experience for the leaders, but also for the rest of his team. You can tell that they really want to see him succeed.”

In addition, fellow Cast Members have learned basic American Sign Language to facilitate better communication and get to know Christian even better.
“At the beginning, I had an interpreter with me as I got to know the team. Shortly afterwards, we were able to move on without one. Of course, there were some challenges at first with communicating smoothly, but the team quickly became like a family to me,” Christian shared.

Christian believes the supportive team atmosphere and passion for diversity and inclusion were instrumental tools in his success. “The team is definitely my favorite part about working here,” Christian gushed. “Establishing relationships with them has made this a special experience.”
The leaders at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo also worked with vendors to implement new resources, modernized equipment, and sensory technology to aid in Christian’s professional development, as well as support future cast members.

Christian is proud of his accomplishment and his team and eagerly looks toward the future.
“For now, I’m taking it step by step. My goal is to become a chef in fine dining here at Disney and with some more time and support, I know I can make that dream a reality!”
