Welcome back to our continuing journey through the history of the Walt Disney Company! Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- February 16.
February 16th featured the release of a Muppet classic, the loss of a Disney family member, and the launch of Black Panther. So, let’s get started!
The Ugly Dachshund Released (1966)
On this day in 1966 the Ugly Dachshund was released.
Disney’s newest live-action comedy starred Suzanne Pleshette, and told the story of a Great Dane who believed he is a dachshund.
The dog’s mistaken identity results in zany household adventures.
Diamond Double-Cross Closes (1991)
On this day in 1991, Dick Tracy Starring in Diamond Double-Cross closed at the Disney-MGM Studios.
The show had been running since May 1990.
Sharon M. Disney Passes Away (1993)
On this day in 1993, Sharon M. Disney passed away from complications of cancer at age 56.
Walt Disney’s second daughter had been a director of the Walt Disney Company since 1984.
Muppet Treasure Island Released (1996)
On this day in 1996, Muppet Treasure Island was released in theaters.
The film was a take on the classic Robert Louis Stevenson novel “Treasure Island” and starred Kevin Bishop, Tim Curry, and Billy Connolly.
Motocrossed Premieres (2001)
On this day in 2001, The Disney Channel Original Movie Motocrossed premiered.
The film starred Alana Austin as Andrea Carson as a young girl who loves motocross.
Dadnapped Debuts (2009)
On this day in 2009, the Disney Channel original movie Dadnapped debuted.
The film starred Emily Osment as Melissa, a young girl who’s father wrote a best-selling novel about a teenage super spy.
When her father is kidnapped however, Melissa must save her.
The Disney Fantasy Sets Sail (2012)
On this day in 2012, the Disney Fantasy set sail for New York on its maiden voyage.
Disney’s newest ship was built in Papenberg, Germany and would be based in Port Canaveral.
Good Luck Charlie Finale Airs (2014)
On this day in 2014, the series finale of Good Luck Charlie aired.
Good Luck Charlie debuted in 2010, and ran for 97 episodes.
Black Panther Released (2018)
On this day in 2018, Black Panther was released in theaters.
Marvel’s newest adventure, the film starred Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Letitia Wright, and Angela Bassett.
Z-O-M-B-I-E-S Premiers (2018)
Also on this day in 2018, the Disney Channel Original Movie Z-O-M-B-I-E-S premiered.
The film followed a zombie football player named Zed, and a cheerleader named Addison, who live in the town of Seabrook.
