Epcot’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Update: Standby Queues Coming Soon?

Since its opening, Epcot’s Guardians of the Galaxy has operated through virtual queues and individual Lightning Lanes. Virtual queues allow guests to secure a spot in line for the popular attraction without physically waiting for hours.

Guests could only join the virtual queue for the ride at two specific times of the day, either 7:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m.

But, surprisingly, our MickeyBlog team found virtual queue openings past the 1:00 p.m. deadline.

At the time of this writing, our crew noticed that the virtual queue was still open at 3:00 p.m., with boarding groups 98 – 112 being called to ride.

For today, at least, this change was a welcome relief for guests who could not join the virtual queue in the early hours. We were able to snag a time slot ourselves!

We found the signs showing wait times at Epcot showed the virtual queue availability.

There was also a notice on the My Disney Experience app. Meaning guests could conveniently join the queue from anywhere.

Interesting, recent Moonlight Magic events for Disney Vacation Club members saw Epcot use standby queues for this roller coaster.

Does this mean that Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind may soon be open to the standby queue?

With the upcoming debut of the Tron Lightcycle / Run roller coaster, Disney World may be looking to open virtual queues to the new attraction. Of course, it is currently unclear whether the removal of virtual queues at the Epcot ride will happen.

We hope this is a positive sign for anyone who wants to ride Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at Epcot.
