Titanic Resurfaces To Reclaim Spot As Third Highest Grossing Film Ever
The ongoing battle between James Cameron blockbusters took another turn this weekend, when Titanic resurfaced in theaters to reclaim its spot as the third highest grossing film of all time.
Early in the week, Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water had briefly surpassed Titanic for the number three spot. With Super Bowl weekend upon us however, Paramount took the opportunity to raise Titanic from the depths and put it back in theaters. The film is currently celebrating its 25th anniversary.

When adjust for inflation however, Titanic easily sinks Avatar: The Way of Water. In this ranking, Titanic is the third highest grossing film of all time, trailing only Cameron’s first Avatar film and Gone with the Wind. The Way of Water on the other hand would fall out of the top ten.
Winner- James Cameron
In the coming days, Avatar: The Way of Water will sail past Titanic once again, but for now, the 1997 epic has regained its hold on the number three spot.
The competition is a win-win for director James Cameron who will have three of the top four grossing movies of all time, regardless of which film finishes third.

The visionary director will now set his sights on the upcoming Avatar sequels. Cameron has previously stated that he has already completed “Avatar 3” and parts of “Avatar 4”. Whether those films can reach the success of their predecessors remains to be seen, however one thing is clear. It is good to be James Cameron.
