Splash Mountain Construction Update: Water Wheel and Drop
Construction continues upon the recent closure of a nostalgic attraction at Magic Kingdom. In today’s update, Disney World focuses on the water wheel and drop.
Splash Mountain
Yesterday, we shared that Walt Disney World removed an iconic statue from the attraction’s entrance. Featuring Br’er Rabbit, it was a landmark of the area, greeting Guests as they entered.
Although it’s common knowledge that in order for the retheme to occur, all elements referencing the original attraction must be removed, it’s still surprising to witness. Though the ride was controversial based on its movie inspiration, visitors were accustomed to this version for 30 years.
Over on the west coast, there’s still no word as to when Disneyland’s Splash Mountain will close. Interestingly, the ride often experiences reasonable wait times, likely due to the time of day, being that you’re sure to get wet onboard.
If you’ve been following along, you’re already up to date with previous adjustments reflecting Splash Mountain’s transition. Check out some of our other Splash Mountain articles for an overview.
MickeyBlog will continue to keep you posted on the latest from the site of Splash Mountain’s Tiana’s Bayou Adventure transformation. The ride will debut in late 2024 at both Disneyland and Disney World.
For now, let’s take a look at its current status. Come along with us as we explore Magic Kingdom today!
Water Wheel and Drop
The most notable construction update of the day regards the water wheel and drop.
As you can see, scaffolding has been placed around the wheel, which sits in the attraction’s foreground.
In addition, you can see more scaffolding at the peak of the drop.
There are also some blue tarps dispersed around different parts of Splash Mountain’s landscape.
An area to the right is also surrounded by scaffolding and tarps.
Take a closer look at the peak of the drop, and you’ll see the equipment.
Disney World is making good progress on construction with visible updates nearly every day.
Guests will undoubtedly be excited when the new ride premieres next year!
