Construction Update: Light & Power Co Refurbishment Continues
If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog, you’ll know that the Light & Power Company in Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom has been getting a bit of an overhaul. The Space Mountain gift shop is in close proximity to the soon-to-open TRON Coaster and new walking paths can now be found along the building.
With this in mind, the façade of the Light & Power Co is in the process of being rethemed
White going for a ride on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover this morning, our MickeyBlogger Kristen captured some images of the shop. As you can see, walkways now appear along one side of the shop.
Prior to the refurbishment, large character-inspired cogs appeared on the outside of the building. These have been removed.
The shop, also a popular spot for futuristic Space Mountain and Tomorrowland gifts has been on hiatus to accommodate changes both to the interior and exterior of the building.
As our MickeyBlogger Madeleine reported earlier this month, over the past few weeks, we’ve been seeing that more elements from the original façade have been removed. This includes a clock, graphics and a cog-esque trim the bordered the roof.
Disney has not given us any news regarding the length and breadth of the refurbishment. However, we’ll be keeping a close eye on the progress.
We loved all of those tiny futuristic details on the original facade and hope that Imagineering has something exciting in mind for the overhaul.
With more traffic set to descend on Tomorrowland once the TRON Coater opens, we suspect that new elements will be introduced to the Light & Power Company that make it more cohesive with the aesthetic of the coaster.
In the meantime, you can see that the side entrance of Light & Power Co now sits behind Disney’s customary wall of shrubbery to mask construction.
With less than two months to go before TRON opens, we hope that we’ll start to see some progress and the Light & Power Co project soon!
