Liam Neeson Says He’s Done With Star Wars
A fan favorite character may not be returning to the Star Wars universe anytime soon.
Actor Liam Neeson, who portrays Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn told Men’s Health that he does plan on returning to the role again in the future.
“No. Star Wars, no,” Neeson said. “As much as I admire them… There’s just so many of them now. So I’ve lost track, unfortunately.”
A Fan Favorite Character
Neeson first played Qui-Gon Jinn in 1999’s The Phaeton Menace. In the film, the maverick Jedi was a mentor and father figure to both Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker.
Although Qui-Gon was killed by Darth Maul at the end of the film, he would continue to appear as a Force Ghost.
As a phantom himself, Qui-Gon appeared in the Clone Wars and the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. In these follow-up appearances, Neeson portrayed the master Jedi.
Neeson’s most recent appearance was in the 2022 animated series Tales of the Jedi, which was set during the events of the Phantom Menace. All in all, the character has remained an integral part of the Star Wars franchise.
A Change of Heart?
Neeson had previously stated that he would potentially return to the role of Qui-Gon as long as it was for a feature-length film. Since that time, it seems as if the actor may have soured on the idea.
With that being said, if there is one thing that Star Wars fans know, its that you can never say never. The question that spurred Neeson’s response asked “pop up in a spinoff prequel.”. So perhaps the actor just doesn’t see a return to a galaxy far, far away in the immediate future.
As a Star Wars fan, I would love to see Qui-Gon’s return. However, it appears as if Neeson may not be back anytime soon.
