Florida Recognizes February 6-10 as Severe Weather Awareness Week
While we continue to wait for news from the Florida State Legislator about the future of the Reedy Creek Improvement District, we have another announcement form the Florida Government.
Today Governor Ron DeSantis issued a proclamation recognizing February 6-10, 2023 as Florida Severe Weather Awareness Week.
The week is observed each year by the National Weather Service and Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) to raise awareness and preparedness for severe weather.
Preparedness Starts At Home
The Florida Division of Emergency Management prepares for severe weather throughout the year. However, the department wants Florida citizens, and visitors, to know that preparedness starts at home.

“The Division conducts numerous exercises throughout the year to prepare for emergency events in addition to our active emergency response and recovery efforts, but preparedness begins at home,” said FDEM Director Kevin Guthrie. “Disasters can strike at any time. Floridians should have disaster plans in place, including having an evacuation plan in place if needed and a stocked disaster supply kit that supports every member of the family, including pets.”

If you are a Florida resident, or a frequent visitor to Walt Disney World, you know how quickly severe weather can strike. Its good to see the State of Florida partnering with the National Weather Service to help raise awareness.
So, be sure you have a plan in case severe weather strikes. It is always good to be prepared!
