AMC Theaters to Introduce Tiered Ticket Pricing Based on Seat Location
The way you pay for movie theater seats may be changing. AMC, America’s largest movie chain sent out a press release this morning announcing a new tiered-pricing system based on seat location.
Under the new pricing structure, seats in the front rows will be cheaper while the popular middle seats will be more expensive. According to a recent piece on CNN, AMC is calling the new pricing initiative “Sightline at AMC.” The company has advised that it will be rolling out the new tiered-pricing model at 1,000 movie theaters nationwide by the end of 2023.
How Sightlines at AMC Will Be Structured
To expand on how this new pricing system will work, there will be three pricing tiers. These are as follows:
- Preferred – Located in the middle of the theaters and will be priced at a “slight premium”
- Standard- AMC says the majority of seats will fall into this category and will be sold for the traditional cost of a ticket.
- Value – Seats in the front rows. Pricing will be less than standard tier.
According to the piece with CNN, AMC also advised that seating maps will be provided that show existing pricing. Sightline pricing will only be used on showings AFTER 4PM.
AMC is also using the new tiered-pricing system to incentivize moviegoers to sign up for their Movie-Pass subscription program. We’re told that Stubs A-List members will not need to pay for access to preferred seating as they are already paying a monthly subscription fee.
“Sightline at AMC more closely aligns AMC’s seat pricing approach to that of many other entertainment venues, offering experience-based pricing and another way for moviegoers to find value at the movies,” said Eliot Hamlisch, AMC’s chief marketing officer, in a press release.
For those unfamiliar, AMC has the AMC 24 Dine-In Theater in Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort. This venue often serves as the home for Orlando Disney-premieres and red carpet events.
