Welcome back to our in-depth trip through the history of the Walt Disney Company! Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- February 5.
February 5th featured the debut of a Disney classic, the creation of a new company, and the death of a Disney Legend. So, let’s get started shall we?
Peter Pan Premieres (1953)
On this day in 1953, Disney’s Peter Pan debuted at the Roxy Theatre.
Disney’s 14th animated feature film, the film tells the story of Peter Pan, the boy who won’t grow up. When Wendy and her brothers are kidnapped by the evil Captain Hook, Peter must save them!
The Misadventures of Merlin Jones is Released (1964)
On this day in 1964, The Misadventures of Merlin Jones debuted.
Starring Tommy Kirk and Annette Funicello, the film tells story of Merlin Jones, a college student who experimenter with mind-reading and hypnotism at Medfield College.
The Color of Friendship Debuts (2000)
On this day in 2000, The Color of Friendship debuted.
The newest Disney Channel original movie told the story of two young girls who learn to overcome their differences.
John Hench Passes Away (2004)
On this day in 2004, Disney Legend John Hench passed away at the age of 95.
Hench began his career at the Walt Disney Company in 1939 as a background artist, before moving on to live action films and eventually WED Enterprises.
Hench would become known as a master of color, and would work on the master plan for Walt Disney World and Tokyo Disneyland. He also was a key figure in the creation of EPCOT Center, and worked on Disney’s California Adventure, Animal Kingdom, and Tokyo DIsneySea.
ImageMovers Digital Created
On this day in 2007, Disney and ImageMovers created ImageMovers Digital in order to create new CGI animated films based on the movement of live actors.
Following the failures of Mars Needs Moms and A Christmas Carol, the venture ceased operation.
